WECAN seeks a passionate and strategic Policy and Communications Manager to join our dynamic team working toward these goals.
Location: Remote, United States

Contract: Full-time, 40 hours/week, compensation starting at $76,000 plus benefits
The Policy and Communications Manager will lead policy analysis, advocacy strategies, and external communications, supporting public messaging and policy engagement at national and international levels.
This role requires a creative thinker skilled in managing multiple communication platforms, creating compelling content, analyzing complex policies, and fostering partnerships.
Role Purpose
The position aims to ensure alignment between policy goals and communication strategies, advancing WECAN’s mission through effective storytelling and advocacy.
Key Responsibilities
Policy and Advocacy
- Track and analyze relevant legislation and climate justice advocacy globally
- Draft fact sheets and position statements
- Develop advocacy strategies aligned with organizational goals
- Build and maintain relationships with policymakers and coalition partners
- Support advocacy events and campaigns
Communications
- Develop and execute comprehensive communications strategies for all programs and campaigns
- Draft press releases, op-eds, blogs, and newsletters
- Manage media relationships and outreach efforts
- Oversee website and social media content management
- Supervise and delegate tasks to the Communications Associate
- Maintain consistent messaging and branding across platforms
- Manage video production, filming, editing, and storytelling efforts
Strategy and Integration
- Align policy priorities with public messaging
- Simplify complex policy language for broader audiences
- Maintain and expand organizational partnerships and collaborations
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in communications and policy, preferably within the non-profit sector
- Excellent writing, copyediting, and verbal communication skills
- Proven experience in policy analysis and media relations
- Experience managing staff, volunteers, or interns
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency with social media management tools and analytics
- Self-motivated with ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote setting
- Passion for climate justice, gender justice, and systemic change
- Extensive knowledge of climate justice movements
- Residency in the United States and ability to travel as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to create short videos and multimedia content
- Photography and videography skills
- Professional proficiency in Spanish
- Experience with climate justice, women’s rights, Indigenous rights, or human rights organizations
- Deep understanding of environmental and climate justice topics, including fossil fuel resistance, land protection, and just transition strategies
