    The Agroecology Fund (AEF) has announced an exciting opportunity for an experienced communications professional to join its global team as a Communications Specialist (Content Writer and Editor).

    The fully remote position offers a competitive annual salary of $75,000–$80,000, alongside a strong benefits package and the opportunity to contribute to global movements transforming food systems.

    The successful candidate will lead storytelling, editorial development, and strategic communications efforts that amplify the voices of grassroots movements, Indigenous Peoples, small-scale farmers, and agroecology practitioners worldwide.

    Position Overview

    The Communications Specialist (Content Writer and Editor) will oversee the development of high-quality editorial content that communicates the impact of agroecology movements around the world.

    Reporting to the Communications Lead, the successful candidate will manage the full content production process, from identifying stories and conducting research to writing, editing, publishing, and distributing communications materials.

    The role will support AEF’s mission by creating compelling narratives that connect grassroots experiences with global audiences, including:

    • Donors
    • Development partners
    • Policymakers
    • Media organisations
    • Civil society groups
    • Agroecology networks

    Key Responsibilities

    Editorial Content Development and Storytelling

    The Communications Specialist will lead AEF’s storytelling efforts by developing engaging content that highlights the work of communities and partners.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Managing the annual editorial calendar
    • Developing stories aligned with organisational priorities and global events
    • Writing feature stories, blogs, newsletters, and reports
    • Conducting interviews with grantees, partners, donors, and stakeholders
    • Identifying impactful stories from grassroots movements
    • Working with external writers and editors when required

    The role requires the ability to transform complex ideas into accessible and engaging stories for diverse audiences.

    Content Production Across Communications Platforms

    The successful candidate will create and edit a wide range of communications products, including:

    Annual Reports

    The Communications Specialist will lead the development of AEF’s annual report by:

    • Coordinating contributions from programme and regional teams
    • Writing and editing key sections
    • Ensuring consistency in messaging and style

    Strategic Communications Materials

    The role will involve producing:

    • Project briefs
    • Brochures
    • Media statements
    • Press releases
    • Opinion pieces
    • Fundraising materials
    • Key messages

    Digital Storytelling Content

    The candidate will develop:

    • Website articles
    • Human-interest stories
    • Blogs
    • Newsletters
    • Knowledge products
    • Social media content

    Editorial Quality and Standards

    The Communications Specialist will ensure all publications meet high editorial standards.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Serving as lead editor for major communications products
    • Reviewing content for accuracy, clarity, and consistency
    • Maintaining editorial guidelines and workflows
    • Ensuring appropriate attribution and consent when featuring communities
    • Promoting inclusive and respectful storytelling practices

    Global Communications Coordination

    Because AEF works internationally, the role requires coordination across multiple languages and regions.

    The Communications Specialist will:

    • Support multilingual communications workflows
    • Work with translators and regional teams
    • Coordinate content development in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese
    • Ensure culturally appropriate communication across global audiences

    Experience working with international teams and multilingual content is highly desirable.

    Rapid Response and Strategic Writing

    The successful candidate will support communications needs during important organisational moments, campaigns, and global events.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Producing materials under tight deadlines
    • Supporting major announcements
    • Preparing campaign communications
    • Assisting the Communications Lead with strategic messaging

    Managing External Editorial Consultants

    The role includes coordinating external communications professionals, including:

    • Freelance writers
    • Editors
    • Copy editors
    • Translators
    • Graphic designers

    Responsibilities include:

    • Developing project scopes and Terms of Reference
    • Managing timelines and budgets
    • Ensuring quality deliverables
    • Coordinating publication projects

    Publication and Content Distribution

    The Communications Specialist will support the global reach of AEF’s stories by identifying opportunities for wider dissemination.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Publishing content across digital platforms
    • Supporting partner content sharing
    • Identifying opportunities for republication and syndication
    • Repurposing content into different formats
    • Tracking audience engagement and content reach

    Required Qualifications and Experience

    Applicants should have:

    • A Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in Communications, Journalism, English, International Development, or related fields
    • 5–7 years of professional experience in communications, journalism, publishing, editing, or content creation
    • Experience producing high-quality written materials for international organisations, NGOs, foundations, or media organisations
    • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
    • Experience developing annual reports and knowledge products
    • Ability to simplify technical information for general audiences

    Candidates should also have knowledge of:

    • Climate change issues
    • Food systems transformation
    • Agroecology movements
    • Sustainable development

    Preferred Skills
