Job Summary
The Agroecology Fund seeks a skilled Communications Specialist (Content Writer & Editor) to lead the development of compelling editorial content that amplifies the voices of grassroots movements, Indigenous Peoples, and agroecology practitioners.
The role involves managing end-to-end content creation—from identifying stories and conducting interviews to editing, publishing, and strategizing dissemination across multiple languages including English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese.
This is a full-time, remote position reporting to the Communications Lead.
Primary Responsibilities
Editorial Content Development & Storytelling
- Manage Agroecology Fund’s annual editorial calendar, aligning content with organizational priorities and major events such as Climate Week and COP.
- Identify and develop impactful stories showcasing grassroots initiatives and regional partners.
- Collaborate with program teams and external writers to produce high-quality content.
- Conduct interviews with stakeholders to capture the impact of movement-building efforts.
- Adapt messaging for diverse audiences, including donors, policymakers, media, and communities.
Content Production Across Communications Products
- Lead the writing, editing, and production of the annual report and strategic communication materials.
- Develop narratives for blogs, newsletters, briefs, press releases, and knowledge products.
- Repackage technical reports into accessible formats for broad audiences.
- Support event communications for conferences, webinars, and campaigns.
Editorial Excellence & Quality Assurance
- Serve as the lead editor for high-profile publications, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and adherence to editorial standards.
- Develop and maintain editorial style guides and workflows.
- Uphold an inclusive, movement-centered editorial voice reflecting trust-based philanthropy principles.
Global Editorial Coordination
- Coordinate multilingual content development with translators, regional teams, and reviewers.
- Ensure timely delivery of culturally appropriate content across languages.
- Manage external freelancers, including writers, editors, and translators.
Rapid Response & Strategic Writing
- Produce timely materials for emergent issues or organizational campaigns.
- Support strategic communications during high-profile moments.
Management of External Editorial Consultants
- Commission and oversee external writers, editors, and designers.
- Prepare scopes of work, budgets, and timelines for editorial projects.
- Ensure quality and timely delivery of all outsourced content.
Publication & Strategic Dissemination
- Oversee the distribution of content across digital and print platforms.
- Collaborate with partners to maximize visibility and impact.
- Adapt content for multiple formats and channels.
- Track engagement metrics to inform future strategies.
Essential Qualifications
- Master’s degree or equivalent in Communications, Journalism, International Development, or related field.
- 5–7 years of professional experience in writing, editing, or editorial communications.
- Proven experience producing annual reports and technical reporting for non-technical audiences.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Familiarity with climate change, food systems, agroecology, and social movements.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English; additional languages (French, Portuguese) advantageous.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with international organizations, NGOs, foundations, or philanthropic entities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines independently.
- Knowledge of US or European philanthropic sectors.
- Strong editorial judgment and strategic thinking skills.
