Overview

The AI Engineer role at GitLab focuses on building AI-powered solutions that drive measurable business outcomes. The position involves working closely with stakeholders to transform GitLab into an AI-first company, improving workflows in Sales, Marketing, and Customer Support.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose business problems and determine whether AI is the right solution before building proposals.
• Own AI initiatives end-to-end, from stakeholder discovery and technical design to implementation and deployment.
• Design and deliver AI-powered solutions quickly with an emphasis on practical outcomes.
• Integrate AI capabilities into existing systems and workflows using APIs and orchestration tools.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across functions to align on constraints and outcomes prior to solutions.
• Measure success through business and flow metrics.
• Contribute to technical direction by documenting patterns and creating reusable foundations.

Requirements

• Strong proficiency in at least one modern scripting language (Python, JavaScript/TypeScript).
• Deep understanding of REST APIs, GraphQL, and integration patterns.
• Experience with modern AI technologies and critical awareness of AI safety.
• Ability to analyze complex workflows and identify bottlenecks.
• Familiarity with enterprise business systems (e.g., CRM, marketing automation, support platforms).
• Track record of owning complex initiatives from conception to delivery.
• Experience in scoping MVPs and considerations for user experience and business outcomes.
