Senior Engineering Manager, Postgres @ClickHouse

Overview

The Managed Postgres team at ClickHouse is developing a high-performance PostgreSQL service within ClickHouse Cloud. The Engineering Manager will lead a team focused on building and operating ClickHouse Managed Postgres, ensuring reliability while providing a familiar PostgreSQL experience to developers.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and grow a high-performing team with clear expectations and performance management.
• Own outcomes across provisioning, fleet management, failover, point-in-time recovery, upgrades, observability, performance, and security.
• Develop a multi-quarter roadmap based on customer and business needs.
• Guide architecture and assist senior engineers in making sound tradeoffs.
• Enhance operational quality across SLOs, on-call tasks, incidents, maintenance, and automation.
• Engage directly with customers to drive product improvements.
• Manage dependencies, surface risks, and ensure predictable execution within a distributed organization.
• Recruit talent in PostgreSQL, systems, infrastructure, reliability, and product engineering while promoting ownership.

Requirements

• 8+ years in software engineering, including 3+ years in a management role within infrastructure, databases, or developer platforms.
• Experience in building and operating customer-facing stateful services with high availability and performance standards.
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL or managed relational databases, including aspects like replication and performance diagnosis.
• Technical credibility to engage in discussions about architecture and incidents.
• Proven ability to hire, coach, and retain engineering talent, including senior individual contributors.
• Strong judgement in executing across ambiguity, risk, and system health.
• Customer-focused mindset and strong communication skills, capable of leading distributed teams.
