Overview

J-PAL Africa is hiring an Associate Director of Policy to co-lead its Policy & Communications team in a role based in Accra or Nairobi. This position focuses on using data and research to influence public policy across sub-Saharan Africa.

Key Responsibilities

Co-lead the Policy & Communications team alongside the Director of Policy.
Help define and implement J-PAL Africa’s regional strategy.
Act as a senior advisor on evidence-informed policymaking.
Build and manage partnerships with governments and policymakers.
Identify opportunities to scale effective, research-backed programmes.
Promote the use of rigorous evidence in decision-making.
Cultivate relationships with donors, partners, and research institutions.
Lead fundraising efforts and manage grants.
Mentor and grow a high-performing policy team.
Represent J-PAL Africa in high-level engagements, events, and forums.

Requirements

Master’s degree in public policy, economics, international development, or a related field.
At least 7+ years of relevant experience in policy and development.
Proven track record of engaging policymakers and scaling evidence-based programmes.
Strong leadership, team management, and project management experience.
Excellent communication skills, including simplifying technical research.
Experience working with or within government institutions (preferred).
Strong fundraising and donor engagement experience (preferred).
Professional proficiency in French (advantageous).
