Overview
J-PAL Africa is hiring an Associate Director of Policy to co-lead its Policy & Communications team in a role based in Accra or Nairobi. This position focuses on using data and research to influence public policy across sub-Saharan Africa.
Key Responsibilities
- Co-lead the Policy & Communications team alongside the Director of Policy.
- Help define and implement J-PAL Africa’s regional strategy.
- Act as a senior advisor on evidence-informed policymaking.
- Build and manage partnerships with governments and policymakers.
- Identify opportunities to scale effective, research-backed programmes.
- Promote the use of rigorous evidence in decision-making.
- Cultivate relationships with donors, partners, and research institutions.
- Lead fundraising efforts and manage grants.
- Mentor and grow a high-performing policy team.
- Represent J-PAL Africa in high-level engagements, events, and forums.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in public policy, economics, international development, or a related field.
- At least 7+ years of relevant experience in policy and development.
- Proven track record of engaging policymakers and scaling evidence-based programmes.
- Strong leadership, team management, and project management experience.
- Excellent communication skills, including simplifying technical research.
- Experience working with or within government institutions (preferred).
- Strong fundraising and donor engagement experience (preferred).
- Professional proficiency in French (advantageous).
Benefits
The position is a three-year contract with a potential extension, expected to start on June 1, 2026.
