Associate Legal Counsel - (12 Month Contract) @Hootsuite

Overview

Hootsuite is seeking an Associate Legal Counsel, Commercial and Privacy to develop a world-class privacy program and support sales and other commercial matters. This is a remote-first role available to applicants in locations where Hootsuite is set up to hire.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide frontline privacy support to stakeholders throughout the organization (e.g., product development, sales, marketing, etc.).
• Draft privacy policies, notices, and guidance.
• Support the Customer Assurance function by responding to customer data protection and privacy inquiries.
• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including data processing agreements and NDAs.
• Collaborate to implement and maintain key privacy initiatives.
• Identify privacy risks and implement business-minded solutions with stakeholders.
• Maintain privacy and customer assurance operations tools and processes.
• Provide practical legal guidance on commercial contracts, data protection, and procurement.
• Build relationships with local leadership and strategic partners.
• Assist in developing privacy and legal knowledge resources and training.
• Triage a heavy workflow while setting priorities and delivering results efficiently.
• Research changes to relevant laws and ensure compliance.
• Collaborate with other legal team members on various projects.
• Perform administrative duties as required.

Requirements

• 5 years of privacy, legal, or compliance experience or equivalent education/experience.
• A law degree from a recognized university.
• Ability to proactively assist internal/external customers.
• Strong problem-solving and project management skills.
• Familiarity with privacy laws and principles, including GDPR.
• IAPP or other privacy certifications are a plus.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and stay organized.

Benefits

Salary range: $87,700 — $122,700 CAD

Remote role available to applicants in Canada.
