Overview
The Business and Human Rights Centre is seeking a Legal Research & Just Transition Intern to support legal research, litigation tracking, and awareness-raising activities related to human rights and environmental abuses by corporations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct online legal research to identify relevant news, reports, court documents, and legislative developments concerning lawsuits against companies for human rights and environmental abuses.
- Support the Just Transition Litigation Tracking Tool by researching relevant lawsuits and drafting concise summaries.
- Draft and update lawsuit profiles with compiled legal information in clear, accessible formats.
- Contribute to program outputs by drafting the CLA Quarterly Update newsletter and selecting news items for the Weekly Update.
- Participate in virtual meetings, including fortnightly global team meetings and regional research discussions.
- Assist with general tasks such as liaising with organizations and supporting the company response mechanism.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a university law program (LLB/LLM/JD or similar) or possess a legal background.
- Proven legal research and analytical skills with experience in online research.
- Strong general research abilities with the capacity to summarize complex information clearly.
- Commitment to human rights and social justice.
- Willingness to perform routine data input tasks regularly.
- Excellent English language skills; fluency in other languages (French, Spanish, Arabic, or Russian) is a plus.
- Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and achieve results.
Benefits
This is an unpaid internship. Reimbursement for lunch expenses is provided, up to GBP 7 / USD 9 / EUR 9.
