The global environmental organisation The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is hiring a Carbon Project Manager to support its expanding work in carbon markets and natural climate solutions.

This remote, full-time role offers a unique opportunity for professionals interested in climate finance, conservation, and sustainable development.

The position is part of TNC’s Impact Finance & Markets division and sits within the Global Carbon Markets team. It is initially offered as a two-year contract, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability.

    About the Role

The Carbon Project Manager plays a central role in delivering high-impact carbon projects under the Natural Climate Solutions Accelerator (NCSA). The position focuses on guiding projects through the design phase while ensuring they are technically sound, investment-ready, and aligned with sustainability goals.

This is a highly collaborative role that brings together technical, financial, and operational teams. The successful candidate will oversee project execution, coordinate stakeholders, and ensure that carbon initiatives are developed into viable, scalable enterprises.

The role also includes contributing to the development of a Business Incubator programme that supports early-stage carbon projects and social enterprises.

    Key Responsibilities

    Carbon Project and Portfolio Management

The Carbon Project Manager is responsible for managing a portfolio of carbon projects across different stages of development.

    Key duties include:

    • Leading project planning by defining scope, timelines, budgets, and deliverables
    • Coordinating cross-functional teams to ensure smooth implementation
    • Monitoring project progress and resolving challenges to meet milestones
    • Supporting the development of Project Design Documents (PDDs) and validation readiness
    • Managing administrative, contracting, and compliance processes
    • Building strong relationships with regional partners and internal teams
    • Preparing reports and updates for stakeholders and leadership

The role requires applying advanced project management methodologies to ensure projects remain on track and aligned with organisational goals.

    Business Incubator Programme Support

In addition to project management, approximately 20% of the role focuses on designing and improving TNC’s Business Incubator programme.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Coordinating programme delivery, including facilitators, mentors, and participants
    • Supporting the development of training materials, tools, and curriculum
    • Creating systems to capture lessons learned and improve programme design
    • Tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) and programme budgets
    • Identifying market trends and opportunities in carbon finance and climate investment

The goal is to strengthen the pipeline of investment-ready carbon projects and enhance the scalability of the incubator model.

    Required Qualifications

Applicants should have a strong background in project management, business strategy, or climate-related fields.

    Minimum requirements include:

    • A bachelor’s degree and at least five years of relevant professional experience

    • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly
    • Experience managing project timelines, budgets, and deliverables
    • Familiarity with business models, social enterprises, or investment readiness frameworks

The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work across diverse teams is essential.

    Preferred Skills and Experience

While not mandatory, the following qualifications will strengthen an application:

    • Experience in carbon markets, climate finance, or conservation finance
    • Knowledge of natural climate solutions and sustainability frameworks
    • Certification in project management (such as PMP)
    • Experience in programme design, business incubation, or entrepreneurship support
    • Multilingual ability, particularly Spanish or Swahili
    • Experience working in global or emerging market contexts

Candidates with a strong understanding of both environmental systems and financial models will be especially well-positioned for this role.
