Overview
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to international efforts defending journalists and press freedom as a Communications Associate within the Committee to Protect Journalists.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily press inbox and respond to media inquiries.
- Build and maintain relationships with journalists globally.
- Pitch op-eds and support media placements.
- Coordinate interviews and media briefings.
- Serve as first responder for breaking news in Europe time zones.
- Draft, edit, and distribute press releases and communications materials.
- Produce web content and promotional messaging.
- Support social media content creation and dissemination.
- Monitor global news and identify rapid response opportunities.
- Assess reputational risks and emerging media trends.
- Maintain global media contact databases.
- Assist with communications for reports, campaigns, and missions.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience in media relations or communications.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Strong understanding of global media ecosystems.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines in fast-moving environments.
- Experience with tools such as Mailchimp and WordPress.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in remote teams.
Benefits
- Salary range: £52,000 – £56,000 (or equivalent depending on location).
