    Job Summary

    The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is seeking experienced professionals with backgrounds in meteorology, hydrology, geophysical sciences, and international cooperation to support Malawi through the CREWS initiative.

    The consultancy involves developing the EW4All Roadmap for Malawi, enhancing early warning systems, and supporting risk-informed planning efforts.

    About the Role

    The successful candidate will facilitate the development of Malawi’s national EW4All Roadmap, align it with government priorities, and recommend key activities for WMO support in hydrology and meteorology.

    This role requires stakeholder engagement, policy review, and report preparation to ensure the effective implementation of early warning services.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct a desktop review of existing policies, strategies, and assessments relevant to early warning systems.
    • Facilitate the development of the EW4All Roadmap, ensuring alignment with national capacities and resource mobilization.
    • Engage stakeholders meaningfully throughout the process.

    • Prepare and submit all required reports according to the schedule.
    • Develop an inception report, draft, and final EW4All Roadmap for Malawi, including detailed documentation of the consultative process.

    Qualifications and Experience

    Education

    • Advanced degree (master’s or above) in meteorology, hydrology, climatology, or related fields supporting early warning systems and disaster risk reduction.

    Experience

    • Minimum 15 years supporting national meteorological, hydrological, or warning services.
    • Experience working in Malawi is preferred.

    Skills & Knowledge

    • Expertise in EW4All frameworks, multi-hazard early warning systems, and disaster risk reduction.
    • Strong stakeholder engagement and report-writing skills.
    • Ability to align policies with national priorities and mobilize resources.

    Languages

    • Excellent command of English (oral and written).
    • Knowledge of other WMO official languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is an advantage.

    Additional Information

    • Salary and Allowances: $390 to $560 per day (Payband C/D).
    • Duration: 10 days over a period of 2 months.
