ATNi (Access to Nutrition initiative) is seeking an experienced Environmental Impact Assessment Consultant to evaluate the environmental impacts of food and beverage companies’ product portfolios as part of ATNi’s Global Index 2027.

The role involves conducting comprehensive assessments across multiple environmental impact categories, analyzing data, and delivering actionable insights.
The position is fully remote and reports to the Project and Research Lead.
About Access to Nutrition initiative
ATNi is an independent global nonprofit dedicated to creating healthier food environments. The organization works to challenge the food industry and empower policymakers, investors, and other food system actors with data and insights to promote nutritious and sustainable food systems.
The upcoming Global Index aims to compare the health and environmental impacts of leading food manufacturers, informing strategies for a sustainable future.
Key Responsibilities
Familiarization and Data Preparation
- Review and understand the environmental impact assessment model and datasets
- Run small-scale demo analyses using sample data
Data Cleaning and Classification
- Collaborate with research teams to clean and prepare product data
- Encode product and ingredient data, utilizing classifiers for ingredient categorization
- Validate classification outputs
Environmental Impact Analysis
- Conduct composition estimation and impact calculations across five categories: greenhouse gases, land use, water stress, eutrophication, and biodiversity
- Use country-specific LCA data where available
- Aggregate impacts for individual ingredients and products
Interpretation and Visualization
- Generate clear, actionable insights and trends
- Develop visualizations to communicate findings effectively
- Link environmental scores with nutrient profiling data
Reporting and Presentation
- Prepare comprehensive reports including findings, visualizations, and recommendations
- Document methodology, data sources, limitations, and uncertainties
- Present interim and final results to stakeholders
Qualifications & Competencies
- Master’s degree in sustainability, nutrition, public health, data science, or related fields
- Proven experience in data modeling and quantitative analysis, preferably involving product-level environmental impact assessments using LCA data
- Advanced skills in Python and R for data analysis and modeling
- Strong communication skills for stakeholder engagement and presentation of complex data
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Education & Experience
- Higher-level degree in relevant fields
- Experience with environmental impact assessments in food systems
- Familiarity with LCA data and impact categories
- Proven track record of stakeholder collaboration and technical reporting
