    Magamba Network is seeking a strategic and highly organised professional to join its team as a Fired Up Officer, supporting a continent-wide network of young African climate activists, creators, and creatives.

    The position offers an opportunity to work at the intersection of climate justice, energy sovereignty, youth-led movements, creative campaigning, digital media, and advocacy. The successful candidate will coordinate the Fired Up initiative and help develop campaigns challenging fossil-fuel influence, climate disinformation, and sportswashing while promoting a just and inclusive renewable-energy transition across Africa.

    The role is based in Harare, Zimbabwe, or remotely.

    About the Fired Up Initiative

    Fired Up is a youth-focused initiative hosted by Magamba Network, a creative and digital media organisation working to support social change across Africa.

    The initiative brings together young climate activists, creators, and creatives to develop innovative campaigns and strengthen youth participation in climate advocacy.

    The Fired Up Officer will play a central role in coordinating the network, managing campaigns and resources, developing partnerships, supporting policy advocacy, and overseeing storytelling, monitoring, reporting, and fundraising activities.

    The position requires someone who can combine strategic thinking with practical project management and creative campaigning.

    Key Responsibilities

    The Fired Up Officer will coordinate the network’s activities and ensure that campaigns are strategically aligned with the initiative’s objectives.

    Major responsibilities include:

    • Coordinating the network of young African climate activists, creators, and creatives
    • Developing Africa-wide climate justice campaigns
    • Challenging fossil-fuel influence and sportswashing
    • Raising awareness about a just energy transition
    • Supporting campaigns against climate disinformation
    • Supporting the development of young climate activists and creators
    • Aligning campaign activities with organisational priorities

    The successful candidate will also oversee campaign planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting.

    Project and Team Management

    The Fired Up Officer will lead a multidisciplinary team comprising activists, creatives, content creators, interns, and other project personnel.

    Responsibilities will include:

    • Providing guidance and performance support to team members
    • Promoting an inclusive and collaborative working environment
    • Managing project resources and budgets
    • Coordinating campaign participants and initiatives
    • Overseeing editorial standards for campaign materials
    • Organising training and capacity-building activities
    • Managing workshops, outreach programmes, and events
    • Conducting focus group discussions
    • Liaising with local authorities and stakeholders
    • Developing monitoring and evaluation frameworks
    • Tracking project indicators and targets
    • Preparing monthly and quarterly reports
    • Producing the final project report
    • Supporting fundraising and proposal development

    The Officer will be expected to ensure that activities are delivered effectively and that project results are properly documented.

    Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships

    An important part of the role will be expanding the Fired Up movement’s network and influence.

    The Officer will also represent Magamba Network at meetings, conferences, public forums, and other strategic engagements.

    Climate Advocacy and Policy Influence

    The role will involve supporting advocacy efforts at regional, continental, and international levels.

    Responsibilities include developing:

    • Policy briefs
    • Position papers
    • Advocacy materials
    • Campaign messages

    The successful candidate will engage policymakers and other decision-makers to promote policies supporting decentralised and socially owned renewable energy.

    They will also organise Africa-wide actions and gatherings aimed at advancing progressive climate and energy policy demands.

    Storytelling and Communications

    Creativity and communication are central to the Fired Up initiative.

    The Officer will work closely with the Storytelling team to develop communication strategies that raise awareness and mobilise public support.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Developing campaign communication strategies
    • Producing flagship campaign content
    • Coordinating social media content
    • Supporting media relations
    • Drafting press releases and op-eds
    • Supporting media interviews
    • Developing videos and multimedia content
    • Using digital platforms to mobilise supporters
    • Creating innovative content to advance campaign goals

    The successful candidate should understand how creative storytelling and digital platforms can be used to engage young audiences and build movements.

    Research and Analysis

    The Fired Up Officer will also monitor developments in climate science, policy, renewable energy, and movement organising.

    The role requires the ability to analyse climate data and research to inform campaigns and assess the effectiveness of advocacy activities.

    Required Qualifications and Experience

    Applicants should have a degree or recognised professional qualification in a relevant field such as:

    Candidates should have at least three years of relevant professional experience in areas such as:

    Applicants should also demonstrate experience developing or coordinating multi-country or Africa-wide campaigns, preferably involving young people, activists, creators, or civil society organisations.

    Additional Skills and Experience

    The following would be an advantage:

    • Knowledge of climate disinformation and fact-checking methodologies
    • Experience with Indigenous knowledge systems
    • Understanding of decolonial approaches to development
    • Experience with community-led narrative work
    • Knowledge of safeguarding and informed consent when working with Indigenous and frontline communities
    • French or Portuguese language skills

    French and Portuguese are particularly useful because the Fired Up network works across Francophone and Lusophone Africa.
