This consultancy focuses on the critical intersection of climate change and labour migration, an emerging frontier in both the climate and human rights fields.

The Climate-Resilient Labour Mobility Specialist will design and deliver a framework to help businesses ensure their adaptation investments are inclusive of migrant workers affected by climate stresses, with a primary focus on Africa.

Key Responsibilities

Design and deliver a Climate-Resilient Labour Mobility Framework tailored for business sectors vulnerable to climate risks, especially in Africa.
Conduct comprehensive analysis on climate risks and labour mobility, producing detailed risk mapping and identifying gaps in current practices.
Develop the framework’s principles, indicators, and enabling conditions to guide responsible business practices across high-risk sectors.

Engage with stakeholders in Africa, South Asia, and the Americas to secure pilot commitments from businesses willing to implement and test the framework.
Collaborate with IHRB’s Migration and Just Transition teams, contributing to research, stakeholder engagement, and outreach activities.
Support dissemination of the framework at IHRB events, including the Global Forum on Responsible Recruitment in Q3 2027.

Essential Requirements

Minimum of 7+ years experience at the intersection of labour migration and climate change, with a focus on Africa.
Deep knowledge of African labour markets, climate pressures, and regional governance frameworks.
Proven ability to design analytical frameworks or standards for business audiences, translating complex evidence into actionable guidelines.

Experience engaging with global brands, recruitment agencies, or large employers in climate-exposed sectors.
Excellent English communication skills (written and spoken).
Ability to work independently, managing complex projects and stakeholder engagement.

Desirable Skills and Experience

Familiarity with Institute for Human Rights and Business’s work on responsible recruitment and supply chains.
Experience working across multiple corridors, such as South Asia or the Americas.
Existing networks with climate/migration researchers or civil society organizations.
Experience supporting pilot projects with businesses.

Compensation

The total budget for this consultancy is £32,000, payable over approximately 14 months, averaging £2,286 per month.
