    Job Summary

    The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO seeks an experienced International Consultant to support the preparatory process for the 2027 UN Ocean Decade Conference and the development of 16 Ocean Decade Blueprints.

    This role involves facilitating workshops, regional dialogues, and ensuring alignment with global sustainability frameworks to advance ocean conservation and sustainable use.

    About the Role

    The consultant will contribute to shaping a pivotal global milestone for ocean sustainability by supporting the planning, coordination, and implementation of thematic workshops and regional dialogues.

    The role includes drafting and consolidating Blueprints, providing technical support to workshop leads, and ensuring coherence with international frameworks such as SDGs, biodiversity, and climate agreements.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Support the planning, testing, and finalization of workshop methodologies and Blueprints templates
    • Facilitate training and provide ongoing technical support to workshop and dialogue leads
    • Coordinate and draft the 16 Ocean Decade Blueprints, ensuring consistency, coherence, and policy alignment
    • Consolidate outputs from workshops and dialogues to produce comprehensive, accessible Blueprints
    • Ensure the Blueprints incorporate regional perspectives, cross-cutting themes, and actionable recommendations

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Master’s degree in marine science, environmental science, ocean governance, international relations, public policy, law, or related field
    • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in international ocean, environmental, or sustainable development sectors

    • Proven experience in policy development, international processes, and stakeholder engagement
    • Familiarity with UN processes, especially the UN Ocean Decade and SDG 14
    • Strong skills in synthesis, policy drafting, and multi-stakeholder facilitation
    • Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural and diverse international settings

    Supervisory and Work Arrangements

    The consultant will report to the Deputy Coordinator of the Ocean Decade Coordination Unit, working remotely with possible limited travel.

    Regular progress updates and coordination meetings will be scheduled throughout the contract period.
