The International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) has announced an opening for a part-time Communications Coordinator position for 2026. The remote role is designed for a skilled communications professional who can support digital storytelling, content production, audience engagement, and online visibility initiatives for a global organisation dedicated to advancing opportunities for women journalists.
The Communications Coordinator will work closely with the IWMF Communications Department and collaborate with colleagues across development and programmes teams to strengthen the organisation’s digital presence, promote press freedom initiatives, and communicate the impact of its work worldwide.
The position is fully remote and open to candidates who are authorised to work in the United States.
The International Women’s Media Foundation is a global nonprofit organisation focused on supporting women journalists and promoting greater diversity within journalism. Through emergency assistance, safety training, reporting opportunities, and recognition programmes, the organisation works to expand opportunities for women journalists while strengthening independent media and freedom of expression.
The IWMF supports journalists operating in challenging environments and advocates for a media landscape where diverse voices can participate fully and safely.
The successful candidate will support the implementation of the organisation’s digital communications strategy and help create engaging content across multiple platforms.
Key responsibilities include:
• Developing, coordinating, and publishing digital content across platforms such as Instagram, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Facebook, Threads, YouTube, TikTok, X, and Substack.
• Creating and editing platform-specific social media content aligned with the organisation’s mission and communication objectives.
• Supporting content planning by generating ideas, producing original digital assets, and managing publishing schedules.
• Producing newsletters and email marketing communications, including coordination, editing, and distribution.
• Providing graphic design assistance for social media campaigns, events, marketing materials, and organisational communications.
• Monitoring digital, social media, and email performance while identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
• Tracking conversations related to journalism, press freedom, gender equality, and digital media developments.
• Supporting community engagement by responding to audiences and maintaining a positive organisational presence online.
• Updating and managing website content through WordPress.
• Assisting with communications materials, short-form content, and cross-functional projects.
The IWMF is seeking candidates with demonstrated communications experience and strong digital content management skills. The organisation values practical experience and proven ability over specific educational backgrounds.
Applicants should demonstrate:
• Experience managing external digital communications through professional, freelance, academic, volunteer, or independent projects.
• Strong social media management experience, including publishing, engagement, monitoring, and analytics.
• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with the ability to adapt tone and messaging for different audiences.
• Ability to communicate organisational missions, values, and impact to journalists, partners, donors, stakeholders, and community members.
• Experience with email marketing platforms and newsletter production.
• Strong visual communication skills and experience creating digital content.
• Ability to manage urgent requests, changing priorities, and sensitive information with professionalism.
• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work independently while meeting deadlines.
• Strong collaboration skills across communications, fundraising, and programme teams.
• Interest in emerging digital platforms, storytelling methods, audience behaviour, and content creation tools.
Candidates should also have proficiency with:
• Adobe Creative Suite
• Buffer
• Canva
While not mandatory, applicants with experience in communications, journalism, marketing, advocacy, media, or nonprofit environments will be highly considered.
Additional preferred qualifications include:
• Experience creating digital storytelling campaigns.
• Knowledge of creator and influencer ecosystems.
• Experience working with mission-driven organisations.
• Understanding of women’s rights, gender-diverse journalists, independent journalism, and media advocacy.
• Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Asana, Slack, WordPress, and digital analytics platforms.
The Communications Coordinator position is a part-time remote opportunity requiring approximately 20 hours per week.
