    Job Summary

    CIVICUS is seeking experienced Civic Space Research Consultants to support the CIVICUS Monitor, an online platform providing comprehensive data on civic space worldwide.

    The role involves drafting and editing country updates and briefs, with a focus on regional expertise, to monitor developments related to fundamental freedoms of association, expression, and peaceful assembly in 198 countries and territories.

    Successful candidates will be added to CIVICUS’s Preferred Supplier List and may receive additional assignments based on relevance and availability.

    About the CIVICUS Monitor

    The CIVICUS Monitor is a vital tool that tracks civic space conditions globally, offering ratings and detailed country updates.

    It collaborates with over 20 regional research partners to gather and verify information, providing insights into civic space restrictions and trends across the world.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Draft and edit country updates and briefs on civic space developments
    • Collaborate with regional research partners to gather accurate information
    • Analyse complex data sets to identify and reveal trends
    • Contribute to the publication of timely and accurate civic space reports

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Master’s degree in Political Science, Law, Sociology, International Relations, Journalism, or relevant regional studies; relevant experience may substitute
    • Minimum of three years’ professional experience working directly with civil society organizations or human rights defenders
    • Strong understanding of global civil society, human rights issues, and regional civic space trends

    • Knowledge of international human rights frameworks related to freedoms of association, assembly, and expression
    • Basic computer literacy; web-based publication experience advantageous
    • Proven experience in civic space research and drafting published documents in English

    • Ability to identify, organise, and verify information from multiple sources
    • Language skills relevant to the regional expertise (e.g., Spanish, French, Arabic, Russian)
    • Well-organised, independent worker with excellent analytical skills
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
