    About the Role

    SteelWatch is seeking a motivated Junior Analyst to join its Data and Analysis team.

    This role offers a unique chance to contribute to impactful projects such as the SteelWatch Corporate Scorecard and Steelmaker Transformation Tracker, which aim to monitor and accelerate decarbonisation in the steel sector.

    The Junior Analyst will analyze industry data, support campaign strategies, and help maintain robust data infrastructure.

    The position involves collaboration with international colleagues and campaigners, with a focus on data collection, analysis, and reporting to promote climate-friendly practices in steel production.

    Key Responsibilities

    Tracker and Scorecard Projects (50%)

    • Collect, interpret, and manage data on steelmakers globally for the Tracker and Scorecard.
    • Support data analysis, findings, and dissemination during project phases.

    Other Data-Related Tasks (50%)

    • Monitor and analyze steel industry datasets and emissions data, collaborating with partners like GEM and IEA.
    • Conduct research and provide data support to strengthen campaign efforts.
    • Track industry updates, corporate reports, and announcements, distinguishing genuine decarbonisation efforts from greenwashing.

    • Maintain internal data infrastructure for accuracy and accessibility.
    • Offer ad hoc data analysis support and collaborate across teams to shape narratives and campaigns.

    Person Specification

    Essential Skills and Experiences

    • B.Sc. in engineering or related fields with strong technical knowledge of steel production and decarbonisation routes.
    • 1-2 years’ experience in engineering, energy modelling, environmental economics, or industry analysis.
    • Proven experience with data analysis, large datasets, and GHG emissions data.

    • Attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to communicate insights visually.
    • Ability to navigate regional differences in steel industry practices and methodologies.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills in English, with flexibility to work across time zones.

    Desirable Skills

    • Experience in non-profit or campaign environments.
    • Knowledge of GHG accounting and reporting standards.
    • Proficiency in office tools (Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom).

    • Additional language skills (Mandarin, Japanese, Korean) are a plus.
    • Python proficiency is advantageous.

    Location and Working Environment

    The role is fully remote, suitable for candidates in the EU, Middle East, or Africa within UTC -2 to UTC +4 time zones.

    Occasional face-to-face meetings and travel may be required. Candidates must have the legal right to work locally; SteelWatch does not support visa applications.

    Flexibility in working hours, including early mornings, is necessary to coordinate across time zones.
