This role involves collaborating with a global science team to build credible, scalable biodiversity crediting approaches aligned with TNC’s 2030 Goals.
The position offers an opportunity to contribute to high-impact research, policy, and market mechanisms, fostering responsible biodiversity outcomes worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
Scientific Leadership and Research Development
- Build the scientific foundation for biodiversity credit markets, focusing on measurement, unit consolidation, and outcome integrity.
- Identify key scientific gaps and develop research questions to scale positive biodiversity outcomes.
- Evaluate global biodiversity datasets and cutting-edge biodiversity monitoring technologies such as eDNA, acoustic sensors, and camera traps.
- Translate emerging biodiversity science into practical insights for strategy, policy, and market engagement.
- Develop scientific frameworks and narratives to strengthen the credibility and coherence of biodiversity credits globally.
Collaborative Engagement and Market Innovation
- Partner across internal teams, external scientific communities, NGOs, and global initiatives to create a robust scientific infrastructure.
- Facilitate scientific convenings, working groups, and expert dialogues to foster collaboration.
- Contribute scientific expertise to biodiversity credit projects, assessing feasibility, risks, and integrity from design to implementation.
- Consider market design principles such as demand signals, fungibility, scalability, and policy landscapes in project assessments.
Policy and Market Strategy Support
- Advise on nature-positive initiatives, private sector engagement, and biodiversity finance mechanisms.
- Help shape the scientific underpinnings of rapid-evolving biodiversity markets, ensuring they are grounded in credible science.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Master’s Degree in a relevant science field with at least 4 years of experience, or an equivalent combination.
- Proven record of peer-reviewed publications in biodiversity, nature markets, or related fields.
- Knowledge of compliance and voluntary biodiversity markets, nature-positive initiatives, and nature finance.
- Experience in data analysis, interpretation, and environmental statistics.
- Strong cross-disciplinary collaboration skills and project management experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Preferred
- PhD with 1-3 years of experience.
- Multilingual skills and cross-cultural experience.
- Familiarity with credit standards bodies, certification schemes, and market governance.
- Experience with biodiversity monitoring technologies and associated data (eDNA, acoustic, camera traps).
- Ability to work across global time zones and willingness to travel.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary Range: $109,700 – $113,900 USD (based on location and experience)
