About African Climate Foundation (ACF)
The African Climate Foundation (ACF) is the first and only African-led climate change re-granting organization on the continent.
Through grant making, fellowships, research, technical assistance, coalition building, and advocacy, ACF aims to support initiatives at the intersection of climate change and development, fostering long-term socio-economic transformation and inclusive growth.
ACF also offers Fiscal Sponsorship services to emerging organizations aligned with its mission.
Role Overview
The Senior Programme Officer will be a key member of the Sustainable Finance team, reporting to the Adviser: Sustainable Finance Programme.
This role involves coordinating and implementing ACF’s efforts to strengthen Africa’s financial systems, institutions, and policies necessary for mobilizing climate and development finance.
The position requires managing multiple interconnected workstreams, fostering strategic partnerships, supporting grant processes, and contributing to thought leadership in sustainable finance.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Delivery and Strategy Implementation
- Support the execution of ACF’s Sustainable Finance Strategy across its core pillars and initiatives.
- Coordinate multiple projects, grants, and partnerships to ensure smooth delivery.
- Identify risks, bottlenecks, and opportunities for adaptive management.
- Track progress, prepare strategic documents, and facilitate cross-team collaboration.
- Support monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities in partnership with the MEL team.
- Organize convenings, workshops, and webinars for peer learning and knowledge sharing.
Partnerships
- Engage with government bodies, regional institutions, consultants, and partners.
- Manage country engagement roadmaps and partnership commitments.
- Represent ACF in meetings, consultations, and strategic discussions.
Grant Management
- Oversee the lifecycle of grants and strategic partnerships.
- Coordinate grant reviews, due diligence, contracting, monitoring, and reporting.
- Support stakeholder coordination and oversight of project implementation.
- Prepare grant documentation, donor reports, and board materials.
Fundraising and Reporting
- Assist in donor engagement, including briefing materials and proposal development.
- Prepare updates, progress reports, and strategic funding documents.
Thought Leadership and External Engagement
- Stay informed on developments in sustainable finance and climate policy.
- Contribute to research, publications, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Represent ACF at external events, webinars, and workshops.
- Support the organization’s learning strategy through evidence gathering and partnerships.
Team Coordination and Administration
- Facilitate daily operations of the Sustainable Finance team.
- Coordinate meetings, workflows, and technical support.
- Support onboarding and internal information sharing.
Candidate Requirements
- Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, Public Policy, International Development, Climate Finance, or related fields.
- 6-8 years of progressive experience in programme management, sustainable finance, economic governance, or related areas.
- Proven experience working with government institutions, development agencies, or multilateral organizations in Africa.
- Strong understanding of public finance, macro-fiscal systems, debt sustainability, and climate finance.
- Demonstrated skills in stakeholder engagement, partnership management, and grant oversight.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multicultural teams.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in French is advantageous.
