The Marcus Wallenberg Prize recognizes groundbreaking scientific achievements that significantly advance knowledge or technological development within the forest-based sector. Nominations are open from February 1 to April 30, 2026.
About the Marcus Wallenberg Prize
The Prize honors outstanding achievements in areas relevant to forestry and forest-based industries, including:
- Forest ecosystem conservation and management
- Sustainable forest resource utilization
- Forest industry process innovation
- Product and service development
- Technological advances contributing to sustainable societal development
The Foundation evaluates nominations based on scientific excellence, technological innovation, or a combination of both. Preferably, the nominated achievement should have emerged within the past 10 years.
Eligibility
A "Candidate" can be an individual researcher or a group of 2–4 individuals who have collaborated on a breakthrough. The nominated work must represent a significant scientific and/or technological breakthrough, demonstrate proven or potential impact on forestry and forest-products industries, and contribute meaningfully to sustainable development. Self-nominations are not permitted.
Nomination & Selection Process
Nominations can be submitted via the official online nomination form, by email, or by mail. All nominations must be received by April 30, 2026. The evaluation process involves an initial review, followed by a request for full documentation from short-listed candidates, and a comprehensive review by a selection committee, peer scientists, and industry experts. The process can take up to 3 years, with prize winners announced early each calendar year.

Nominators should provide:
- Candidate Information: Full name(s), contact details, academic qualifications, employing institution, date of birth, and nationality.
- Research Breakthrough Details: Title, short description (max 200 words), expected impact, related patents, and relevant publications.
- Supporting Information: CV(s) of candidate(s), key collaborators, competing groups/researchers, and nominator details.
