    The International Organization for Migration (IOM), a leading United Nations agency established in 1951, is currently inviting applications for the position of Medical Assistant in Lagos, Nigeria. IOM plays a critical role in promoting humane and orderly migration, supporting displaced populations, and providing essential services to migrants and governments worldwide.

    This opportunity is offered under a Special Short-Term Graded Contract (up to 9 months), with an initial duration of three months. The position is classified under the General Service category (G-4 level) and is open to both internal and external candidates. The application deadline is 13th August 2026.

    The selected candidate will work under the supervision of the Migration Health Officer and Senior Medical Assistant, contributing to operations within the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC). The role involves supporting health assessment programmes and delivering administrative and data management services that facilitate migrant processing.

    The Medical Assistant will perform a wide range of duties, including providing migrants with accurate information regarding health assessments via phone and email, registering applicants in the IOM database, and scheduling medical appointments. The role also involves maintaining daily records, preparing reports, and contributing to customer satisfaction processes.

    In addition, the successful candidate may be assigned to the reception and data processing unit, where responsibilities include verifying applicants’ identities, capturing biodata, taking photographs, printing required documents, and managing medical files. The role also requires handling confidential medical records, coordinating document transmission to relevant partners, and ensuring proper filing and record-keeping in compliance with IOM standards.

    To qualify for this position, candidates must possess either a university degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Information Technology, Statistics, Social Sciences, or Business Administration with at least two years of experience, or a secondary school diploma with a minimum of four years of relevant work experience. Certifications in IT or data entry are considered an added advantage.

    Applicants should demonstrate strong computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office applications, as well as experience in data entry, analysis, or call centre operations—preferably within a medical or high-volume environment. Knowledge of medical terminology, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask effectively are essential for success in this role.
