    Position Overview

    The Medical Doctor will provide high-quality, patient-centered medical care in both outpatient and inpatient settings in line with MSF protocols. The role supports emergency responses and routine projects and requires readiness for rapid deployment to outbreak and crisis situations.

    Emergency Intervention Areas (NERU Focus)

    • Waterborne diseases (e.g., Cholera)
    • Vaccine-preventable diseases (e.g., Measles, Meningitis, Diphtheria)
    • Viral hemorrhagic fevers (e.g., Lassa fever, Dengue)
    • Nutrition-related crises
    • Displacement and conflict-related emergencies
    • Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) response
    • Mass casualty and emergency preparedness

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct outpatient and inpatient consultations, including diagnosis, treatment, referral, and discharge
    • Apply Emergency Triage, Assessment, and Treatment (ETAT) principles
    • Provide continuous care through ward rounds and treatment adjustments
    • Ensure rational use of medicines and adherence to Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) protocols
    • Participate in outbreak response and epidemiological surveillance
    • Maintain accurate clinical records and contribute to medical reporting
    • Supervise and mentor medical and paramedical staff
    • Collaborate with MSF teams and Ministry of Health counterparts
    • Participate in on-call duties and emergency response coordination

    Requirements

    Education:

    • Essential: Medical Degree (MBBS/MBChB or equivalent)
    • Valid practicing license from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN)
    • Desirable: Postgraduate qualification in Tropical Medicine

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 2 years clinical experience
    • At least 2 years’ experience with MSF or other international NGOs
    • Experience in outbreak response or emergency healthcare delivery
    • Strong background in medical data management and reporting

    Languages:

    • Essential: Fluency in English
    • Desirable: Hausa and/or Fulfulde proficiency

    Skills & Competencies:

    • Strong clinical and emergency healthcare knowledge
    • Understanding of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and IDSR guidelines
    • Proficiency in MS Office tools
    • Excellent teamwork, adaptability, stress management, and leadership skills
