    Position Overview

    The Nursing Team Supervisor (NTS) plays a critical leadership role in organizing, supervising, and strengthening nursing services in emergency settings. The position supports the Nigeria Emergency Response Unit (NERU) and requires readiness for rapid deployment to outbreak zones and crisis-affected areas across Nigeria.

    The primary objective is to ensure high-quality, continuous, and effective nursing care in line with MSF protocols and international healthcare standards.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Team Leadership & Supervision

    • Coordinate daily nursing activities and supervise staff performance
    • Prepare duty rosters, manage leave schedules, and ensure adequate staffing
    • Conduct performance evaluations and provide mentorship

    2. Clinical Quality Assurance

    • Ensure strict adherence to MSF clinical protocols and nursing guidelines
    • Maintain high standards of hygiene and Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)

    3. Direct Patient Care

    • Provide hands-on nursing care when necessary
    • Support patient management in both routine and emergency scenarios

    4. Pharmacy & Equipment Oversight

    • Monitor stock levels, storage conditions, and expiry dates of medical supplies
    • Ensure proper use and maintenance of medical equipment

    5. Training & Capacity Building

    • Train nurses, Community Health Workers (CHWs), and emergency staff
    • Strengthen team skills in emergency response and clinical best practices

    6. Reporting & Data Management

    • Ensure accurate patient documentation and reporting
    • Contribute to medical reports such as SitReps and intervention summaries

    7. Epidemiological Surveillance

    • Support disease surveillance systems and outbreak monitoring
    • Participate in data collection and analysis for epidemic-prone diseases

    8. Emergency Response Participation

    • Engage in outbreak response, vaccination campaigns, and field assessments
    • Support rapid health interventions during crises

    9. External Coordination

    • Collaborate with Ministry of Health officials and other stakeholders
    • Represent MSF professionally during field operations

    Emergency Intervention Areas

    • Cholera and other waterborne diseases
    • Measles, meningitis, and diphtheria outbreaks
    • Lassa fever and dengue (viral hemorrhagic fevers)
    • Malnutrition crises
    • Conflict and displacement-related emergencies
    • Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) response
    • Mass casualty and emergency preparedness

    Requirements

    Education:

    • Diploma in Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNSc)
    • Valid practicing license

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 2 years in a similar supervisory role
    • Experience with MSF or international NGOs is highly desirable
    • Proven involvement in outbreak response or emergency healthcare

    Languages:

    • Fluency in English (required)
    • Hausa and/or Fulfulde (advantage)

    Core Competencies:

    • Strong clinical and leadership skills
    • Knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)
    • Ability to work under pressure in emergency settings
    • Excellent teamwork, flexibility, and communication skills
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools
