Job Opportunity: Administrator – Research and Innovation at merSETA (Fixed-Term Contract, 24 Months)
The Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services Sector Education and Training Authority (merSETA), a Schedule 3A public entity established under the Skills Development Act (Act No. 97 of 1998), invites applications for the position of Administrator: Research and Innovation (Reference Number: ARI/HO/07/08/26).

The successful candidate will support research and innovation initiatives by managing administrative processes, coordinating documentation, and facilitating stakeholder communication, contributing to the advancement of skills development within merSETA.
Key Responsibilities
Administrative Coordination
- Prepare meeting logistics, including attendance registers, travel arrangements, venue bookings, and equipment setup.
- Schedule meetings with Project Managers and facilitators to meet research objectives and maintain stakeholder relationships.
Project Support and Documentation
- Support procurement processes in accordance with merSETA policies and systems.
- Load project-linked learners onto the LMS system according to merSETA requirements.
- Upload evidence for loaded learners onto TPIMS for M&E evaluations.
- Develop and maintain an electronic filing system for unit projects.
Financial and Payment Management
- Maintain a tracking spreadsheet for submissions and payments to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Verify project evidence against audit standards.
- Prepare and process payment requisitions for project partners and service providers.
- Follow up on payments to adhere to deadlines and distribute proof of payments.
Additional Responsibilities
- Plan and execute ad hoc projects related to the unit’s functions.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential Qualifications
- A 3-year Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Business Administration, Project Management, Commerce, Social Sciences, Skills Development/Training, or an equivalent NQF Level 6 qualification.
- Minimum of 1 year project administration experience in research, innovation, or skills development projects within a SETA or public sector environment.
Advantageous Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 7) in the same fields or equivalent.
- Over 1 year of project administration experience in research or skills development projects within a SETA or public sector context.
Knowledge and Skills
- Attention to detail
- Collaboration and communication skills
- Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and database management
