Principal Java Developer - Distributed Systems, Serverless - Elasticsearch @Elastic

Overview

The role involves joining the Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team as a Principal Software Engineer, focusing on the scale, performance, and resilience of the Elasticsearch Serverless offering.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate core components of the next-generation Serverless Elasticsearch offering.
• Improve components supporting concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines.
• Maintain cluster coordination system to ensure high performance when nodes come and go.
• Push limits on the number of shards, nodes, and petabytes that Elasticsearch can handle.
• Tackle performance and concurrency issues, proposing and implementing solutions.
• Support support engineers with complex problems.
• Conduct operational investigations end-to-end until issues are resolved.

Requirements

• Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
• Strong skills in core Java and familiarity with data structures, concurrency constructs, and newer language features.
• Technical proficiency in algorithms.
• Experience building large-scale distributed systems.
• Ability to own projects from design to implementation.
• Experience managing projects with multiple engineers.
• Proven track record of utilizing AI in development and debugging.
• Skill in cross-functional collaboration and adapting to business priorities.
• Ability to work autonomously and drive decisions within a distributed team.
