Overview

The role involves joining Elastic as a Principal Software Engineer within the Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team, focusing on scale, performance, and resilience within their Serverless offering.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate core pieces of the next-generation Serverless Elasticsearch offering.
• Improve Elasticsearch’s components for concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines.
• Maintain cluster coordination systems for high performance as nodes come and go from the cluster.
• Push the limits on the number of shards, nodes, and data Elasticsearch can handle.
• Investigate performance or concurrency issues and propose solutions.
• Support engineers with complex problems.
• Own operational investigations end-to-end until issues are resolved.

Requirements

• Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
• Strong skills in core Java and familiarity with data structures and concurrency constructs.
• Technical proficiency in algorithms.
• Experience building large-scale distributed systems.
• Ability to own projects from start to finish.
• Experience managing projects with multiple engineers.
• Proven track record of using AI for development and debugging.
• Ability to collaborate across functions and work autonomously in distributed teams.
