Principal Java Engineer - Distributed Systems, Serverless - Elasticsearch @Elastic

Overview

Elastic is searching for a Principal Software Engineer to join their Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team. This role focuses on enhancing Elasticsearch's scale, performance, and resilience, notably within their Serverless offerings.

Key Responsibilities

• Designing, building, and operating core components of the next-generation Serverless Elasticsearch offering.
• Improving components that support concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines.
• Maintaining cluster coordination systems to optimize performance while managing node transitions.
• Pushing the limits on the number of shards, nodes, and petabytes handled by Elasticsearch.
• Addressing performance or concurrency issues and proposing solutions.
• Supporting support engineers with complex problems.
• Owning operational investigations from start to finish until performance issues are resolved.

Requirements

• Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
• Strong skills in core Java, including familiarity with data structures and concurrency constructs.
• Proficient in algorithms and large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience building and debugging complex features across multiple machines.
• Ability to own projects covering both technical design and collaboration with others.
• Experience managing projects with multiple engineers.
• Proven track record of using AI to expedite development and optimize code.
• Strong collaborative skills to transition between different projects and teams based on priorities.
• Able to work autonomously and drive decisions in a distributed team environment.
