Overview

The role involves a Principal Software Engineer position focused on Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems at Elastic. The engineer will tackle distributed systems challenges, enhancing the performance and resilience of the Serverless offering.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate core components of the next-generation Serverless Elasticsearch offering.
• Improve Elasticsearch’s components to support concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines.
• Maintain the cluster coordination system for high performance as nodes come and go.
• Push the limits on shards, nodes, and petabytes that Elasticsearch can handle.
• Investigate various issues, including performance or concurrency problems, and propose solutions.
• Support support engineers with complex issues.
• Own operational investigations until performance or stability issues are resolved.

Requirements

• Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
• Strong skills in core Java and knowledge of data structures and concurrency constructs.
• Technical proficiency in algorithms and experience building large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience in managing projects involving multiple engineers.
• Ability to collaborate across functions seamlessly.
• Autonomous work style with effective communication skills.
