Overview

The role involves joining Elastic as a Principal Software Engineer in their Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team. The focus is on enhancing Elasticsearch’s scale, performance, and resilience, particularly within the Serverless offering.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate core components of the next-generation Serverless Elasticsearch offering.
• Improve components supporting concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines.
• Maintain cluster coordination for high performance as nodes join or leave.
• Push the limits of shards, nodes, and petabytes handled by Elasticsearch.
• Investigate and propose solutions for performance or concurrency issues.
• Support engineers with complex problems.
• Own operational investigations from start to finish.

Requirements

• Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
• Strong skills in core Java and familiarity with data structures and concurrency constructs.
• Technical proficiency in algorithms.
• Experience building large-scale distributed systems.
• Ability to manage projects involving multiple engineers.
• Proven track record of utilizing AI in development and debugging.
• Ability to work autonomously and drive decisions within a distributed team.
