Overview
The role of Principal Product Manager for Telemetry Collection is within the Observability team at Elastic, a company that provides solutions for search, security, and observability. This position is focused on driving strategy and execution for edge telemetry collectors and remote management capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Define the product vision, go-to-market strategy, and execution roadmap for the Elastic Agent framework, Fleet Server/Service, and telemetry collectors.
- Define and track KPIs focused on agent deployment success, pipeline efficiency, and OTel distributions adoption.
- Oversee the packaging, testing, and distribution of the Elastic Agent and Elastic Distribution for OpenTelemetry Collector (EDOT).
- Drive remote management capabilities for Elastic Agent, Fleet Server, and collector infrastructure.
- Develop the vision and release strategy for cloud-native deployments, focusing on Kubernetes operators and Helm Charts.
- Guide development of receivers and exporters for OpenTelemetry.
- Manage Filebeat and oversee the maintenance of the Beats repository.
- Lead product initiatives for Logstash to improve user experience.
- Collaborate with engineering, UX, and product marketing teams.
- Act as a spokesperson for Elastic’s agent framework and collection capabilities at events.
Requirements
- Minimum five years in a Product Management role with focus on enterprise infrastructure observability or telemetry collection.
- Deep technical familiarity with collectors, log shippers, and agent ecosystems such as OpenTelemetry.
- Proven track record defining requirements for remote agent management or distributed edge collection systems.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes operators and Helm Charts.
- Previous experience in IT Ops, DevOps, or as a customer-facing solution architect.
- Expertise in OpenTelemetry standards and architectures.
- Excellent communication skills to articulate complex technical architectures.
- Strong familiarity with the Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Kibana, Logstash, Beats).
