The role involves joining the Elasticsearch Performance team as a Principal Software Engineer, focusing on performance engineering initiatives to enhance the software’s optimization and predictability for large organizations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead architectural and code-level performance engineering initiatives, focusing on high-impact optimizations.
- Develop foundational performance models and methodologies for complex, distributed systems.
- Drive optimization strategies to maintain Elasticsearch's performance, predictability, and scalability.
- Profile and analyze system behavior to identify performance bottlenecks in various areas.
- Ensure robust performance benchmarks and regression detection for different architectures.
- Collaborate with teams to embed performance-first thinking into new features.
- Design and build AI-assisted optimization harnesses for profiling and benchmarking.
- Mentor other engineers to promote technical excellence and performance-aware development.
Requirements
- Deep knowledge of Java internals and JVM memory management.
- Proven experience in profiling and optimizing distributed systems, especially with benchmarking tools.
- Solid comprehension of distributed systems architecture.
- Experience using AI and advanced tools to accelerate optimization and automate workflows.
- Ability to collaborate across functions and manage transitions between projects.
- Capability to work autonomously and drive decision-making in a distributed team setting.
