Overview
The role of Principal Software Engineer focuses on enhancing vector similarity search functionality within Elasticsearch at Elastic, a company committed to enabling efficient search and utilizing AI for better data management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead initiatives to produce an industry-leading vector database with exceptional speed and relevance.
- Build new search features and address bugs, improving code comprehensibility.
- Collaborate with a global team on vector search capabilities.
- Serve as an expert on Elasticsearch's vector similarity implementation.
- Engage with community members on issues and pull requests.
- Write modern Java code, as Elasticsearch is predominantly Java-based.
Requirements
- Professional experience with vector similarity and databases, including familiarity with HNSW, IVF, or similar algorithms.
- Strong skills in core Java and knowledge of data structures and concurrency constructs.
- Ability to independently guide projects from inception to completion.
- Experience in collaborative development and effective online communication, especially asynchronously.
- Familiarity with various data storage technologies like Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven track record of using AI for development and debugging.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across functions and manage transitions between projects.
