Overview

The role involves serving as a Principal Software Engineer within the Elasticsearch - Search team at Elastic, the Search AI Company.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives to produce a leading vector database offering with unmatched speed and relevance in search.
• Contribute to Elasticsearch by building new search features and fixing bugs, including designing new algorithms or data structures as necessary.
• Work collaboratively with a globally distributed team focused on enhancing vector search capabilities.
• Act as an expert in vector similarity and engage with community members on issues and pull requests.
• Write modern idiomatic Java, as Elasticsearch is primarily Java-based.

Requirements

• Professional experience with vector similarity and vector databases, such as HNSW or IVF algorithms.
• Strong proficiency in core Java and familiarity with standard data structures and concurrency constructs.
• Ability to work autonomously on projects from design to completion, including collaboration with other engineers.
• Experience with multiple data storage technologies like Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration, particularly in asynchronous environments.
• Proven track record of using AI to enhance software development and debugging processes.
• Ability to collaborate across functions and adapt to varying project requirements.
