Overview
The role involves serving as a Principal Software Engineer on the Elasticsearch - Search team, focusing on enhancing vector similarity search functionality within Elasticsearch, and collaborating with a globally-distributed team of expert engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead initiatives to produce a leading vector database offering, supplying speed and relevance in search.
- Contribute to Elasticsearch full-time by building new search features and resolving bugs.
- Work with a globally distributed team focused on vector search capabilities.
- Become an expert on vector similarity as it relates to search relevance.
- Engage with community members on issues and pull requests, occasionally handling them yourself.
- Write idiomatic modern Java; Elasticsearch is 99.8% Java.
Requirements
- Professional experience with vector similarity and vector databases.
- Strong skills in core Java and knowledge of data structures and concurrency constructs.
- Autonomy in project management from beginning to end.
- Effective collaborative skills, especially in remote settings.
- Familiarity with various data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven track record of utilizing AI to enhance development and optimize code.
- Ability to shift between different projects and teams as needed.
