Key Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives to produce an industry-leading vector database offering, enhancing speed and relevance in search.
• Contribute full-time to Elasticsearch by building new features and resolving bugs, while simplifying code.
• Collaborate with a globally distributed team focused on vector search capabilities.
• Serve as an expert on Elasticsearch's vector similarity implementation and improve this area based on insights.
• Engage with community members on issues and pull requests, either triaging or handling them directly.
• Write idiomatic modern Java, as Elasticsearch is primarily Java-based.

Requirements

• Experience with vector similarity in search platforms or in academic research within this field.
• Professional knowledge of vector similarity and databases, including use of algorithms like HNSW and IVF.
• Strong core Java skills, familiar with data structures and concurrency.
• Ability to autonomously lead projects from design to execution, collaborating effectively with others.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience in remote collaboration.
• Familiarity with various data storage technologies including Elasticsearch, Solr, and others.
• Proven ability to utilize AI for development tasks and system optimization.
• Ability to transition seamlessly between projects and teams based on business priorities.
