    Overview

    The CIMMYT is seeking a highly qualified professional for the position of Regional Legal Counsel, a full-time, on-site role based in Delhi that contributes to a globally recognized agricultural research organization dedicated to improving food systems and livelihoods.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead legal strategy and advisory functions across the region.
    • Oversee contract management and legal compliance.
    • Provide practical legal guidance to internal teams.
    • Support institutional governance and risk management.
    • Manage the full contract lifecycle, including drafting, negotiation, and review of agreements.
    • Provide legal advice on corporate, regulatory, labor, tax, and litigation matters.
    • Support compliance programmes and case management systems.
    • Advise departments such as HR, Finance, Procurement, and Research.
    • Ensure adherence to legal and regulatory standards across jurisdictions.
    • Identify legal risks and develop mitigation strategies.
    • Support corporate governance, including documentation and statutory obligations.
    • Prepare legal documents such as memoranda, policies, and training materials.

    Requirements

    • Master’s degree in Law (LL.M).
    • Minimum of 8 years’ experience as in-house legal counsel.
    • Strong background in multi-jurisdictional legal environments.
    • Experience in compliance, regulatory, or non-profit sectors (preferred).
    • Excellent legal drafting and communication skills.
    • Ability to simplify complex legal concepts for non-legal stakeholders.
    • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
    • High ethical standards and confidentiality.
    • Proficiency in English and Spanish (English at C2 level required).
    • Key competencies include critical and analytical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making, teamwork and collaboration, conflict resolution and negotiation, adaptability and multicultural awareness.
