Overview
The CIMMYT is seeking a highly qualified professional for the position of Regional Legal Counsel, a full-time, on-site role based in Delhi that contributes to a globally recognized agricultural research organization dedicated to improving food systems and livelihoods.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead legal strategy and advisory functions across the region.
- Oversee contract management and legal compliance.
- Provide practical legal guidance to internal teams.
- Support institutional governance and risk management.
- Manage the full contract lifecycle, including drafting, negotiation, and review of agreements.
- Provide legal advice on corporate, regulatory, labor, tax, and litigation matters.
- Support compliance programmes and case management systems.
- Advise departments such as HR, Finance, Procurement, and Research.
- Ensure adherence to legal and regulatory standards across jurisdictions.
- Identify legal risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Support corporate governance, including documentation and statutory obligations.
- Prepare legal documents such as memoranda, policies, and training materials.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Law (LL.M).
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience as in-house legal counsel.
- Strong background in multi-jurisdictional legal environments.
- Experience in compliance, regulatory, or non-profit sectors (preferred).
- Excellent legal drafting and communication skills.
- Ability to simplify complex legal concepts for non-legal stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- High ethical standards and confidentiality.
- Proficiency in English and Spanish (English at C2 level required).
- Key competencies include critical and analytical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making, teamwork and collaboration, conflict resolution and negotiation, adaptability and multicultural awareness.
