Overview

The CIMMYT is seeking a highly qualified professional for the position of Regional Legal Counsel, a full-time, on-site role based in Delhi that contributes to a globally recognized agricultural research organization dedicated to improving food systems and livelihoods.

Key Responsibilities

Lead legal strategy and advisory functions across the region.
Oversee contract management and legal compliance.
Provide practical legal guidance to internal teams.
Support institutional governance and risk management.
Manage the full contract lifecycle, including drafting, negotiation, and review of agreements.
Provide legal advice on corporate, regulatory, labor, tax, and litigation matters.
Support compliance programmes and case management systems.
Advise departments such as HR, Finance, Procurement, and Research.
Ensure adherence to legal and regulatory standards across jurisdictions.
Identify legal risks and develop mitigation strategies.
Support corporate governance, including documentation and statutory obligations.
Prepare legal documents such as memoranda, policies, and training materials.

Requirements

Master’s degree in Law (LL.M).
Minimum of 8 years’ experience as in-house legal counsel.
Strong background in multi-jurisdictional legal environments.
Experience in compliance, regulatory, or non-profit sectors (preferred).
Excellent legal drafting and communication skills.
Ability to simplify complex legal concepts for non-legal stakeholders.
Strong organizational and time management abilities.
High ethical standards and confidentiality.
Proficiency in English and Spanish (English at C2 level required).
