Senior Backend Engineer (Python), Agent Developer: Flow Components @GitLab

Overview

GitLab is the intelligent orchestration platform for DevSecOps, enabling organizations to increase developer productivity and accelerate digital transformation. As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Flow Components team, you will focus on backend engineering in Python, contributing to the GitLab's Flow Registry and Duo Workflow Service.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, ship, and maintain secure and performant features for the Flow Registry across the Duo Workflow Service and GitLab monolith backend.
• Collaborate with Product Management, User Experience, and engineering specialists to refine requirements and deliver product improvements.
• Design, implement, and review GraphQL and REST APIs and related backend logic.
• Improve automated testing with RSpec and strengthen quality and developer feedback loops.
• Share standards and lessons with other engineers to support responsible AI integration.
• Participate in on-call rotations, troubleshoot production issues, and contribute to root cause analysis.
• Monitor the competitive landscape for GitLab's Flow Registry capabilities.

Requirements

• Experience building and maintaining production Python applications using LangChain and LangGraph.
• Experience in designing and shipping AI-powered backend features with sound judgment about large language model limitations.
• Proficiency in designing REST and GraphQL APIs with a focus on scalability and maintainability.
• Strong SQL skills and familiarity with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL.
• Comfort in working across the stack and addressing performance bottlenecks.
• Familiarity with JavaScript and Vue frontend development.
• Clear communication skills and experience collaborating in a remote environment.
• Openness to learning and applying transferable skills.
