Senior Engineering Manager, Activation & Engagement @Instacart

Overview

The Shopper Activation & Engagement team at Instacart owns core moments in the shopper lifecycle. Instacart is looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a team responsible for technical strategy, execution, and talent development while partnering with various cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end operations of the Shopper Activation & Engagement team, focusing on technical direction and talent strategy.
• Drive roadmap planning across competing priorities, including compliance and product growth initiatives.
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to align on high-impact work.
• Develop and retain engineering talent within a team of 10–12 engineers.
• Set the technical direction to improve reliability and incident response processes.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience; 5+ years managing software engineers.
• Experience leading product engineering teams across mobile and backend services.
• Strong technical judgment in distributed systems and operationally sensitive systems.
• Proven ability to define and deliver multi-quarter roadmaps.
• Experience managing complex ownership surfaces and ambiguous requirements.
• Track record of successful people leadership.
• Experience with modern AI developer tools.
