Senior Java Developer - Core/Infra - Elasticsearch @Elastic

Overview

The role involves being a Senior Software Developer in the Elasticsearch team, focusing on ensuring that the shared platform functionalities are easy to use, performant, maintainable, and secure.

Key Responsibilities

• Contributing to impactful projects that evolve the core infrastructure of Elasticsearch.
• Identifying and developing opportunities for automation, integrating agentic apps into development workflows.
• Designing and implementing new horizontally-scalable features and APIs in Elasticsearch.
• Tackling performance or concurrency issues and proposing solutions.
• Improving operation and observability of Elasticsearch cloud systems.
• Collaborating openly with the ES team, Elastic users, and other open source projects.
• Assisting support engineers with complex problems.
• Owning operational investigations until issues are resolved.

Requirements

• Experience crafting APIs and understanding tradeoffs.
• Proficiency in algorithms and data structures.
• Strong skills in core Java, including concurrency constructs and newer language features.
• Experience with low-level Java aspects such as concurrency and parallelism.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD systems and practices (e.g., Buildkite, Argo CD).
• Experience leading large-scale projects across engineering teams.
• Ability to take ownership of projects from start to finish.
• Proven track record of using AI to enhance development and optimize code.
• Able to collaborate and adapt between different projects and teams based on priorities.
• Capable of working autonomously and driving results in a distributed environment.
