Overview

The role involves joining Elastic as a Senior Software Engineer within the Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team, focusing on the scale, performance, and resilience of Elasticsearch, particularly in its Serverless offering.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and operate core components of the next-generation Serverless Elasticsearch offering.
• Improve components supporting concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines.
• Maintain cluster coordination systems to ensure high performance.
• Push limits on the number of shards, nodes, and petabytes for Elasticsearch.
• Investigate and propose solutions for performance and concurrency issues.
• Support engineers in resolving complex issues.
• Own operational investigations end-to-end until issues are resolved.

Requirements

• Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
• Strong skills in core Java and familiarity with data structures and concurrency constructs.
• Technical proficiency in algorithms.
• Able to understand and work on complex, highly distributed systems.
• Ability to build and debug features with broad impact across multiple machines.
• Proven track record of using AI to develop, debug, and optimize code.
• Ability to collaborate across functions and adapt to changing priorities.
• Self-motivated with strong communication skills in a distributed team.
