Overview
The role involves joining the Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team as a Senior Software Engineer. The focus will be on scale, performance, and resilience in the context of the Serverless Elasticsearch offering.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and operate core pieces of the next-generation Serverless Elasticsearch offering, impacting customer experience.
- Improve Elasticsearch’s components supporting concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines.
- Maintain the cluster coordination system to ensure high performance while nodes change and data fluctuates.
- Push the limits of shards, nodes, and petabytes Elasticsearch can handle.
- Address performance or concurrency issues and propose solutions.
- Support engineers with complex problems.
- Take ownership of operational investigations until issues are resolved.
Requirements
- Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
- Strong skills in core Java with knowledge of data structures, concurrency constructs, and newer language features.
- Technical proficiency in algorithms.
- Experience with complex, highly distributed systems.
- Ability to build and debug impactful features across multiple machines.
- Capable of owning projects from design to implementation.
- Proven track record of using AI for development and optimization while ensuring ownership of outcomes.
- Effective collaboration skills across functions and teams.
- Ability to work autonomously and communicate effectively in a distributed team.
