Overview

The role involves joining the Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team as a Senior Software Engineer. The focus will be on scale, performance, and resilience in the context of the Serverless Elasticsearch offering.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and operate core pieces of the next-generation Serverless Elasticsearch offering, impacting customer experience.
• Improve Elasticsearch’s components supporting concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines.
• Maintain the cluster coordination system to ensure high performance while nodes change and data fluctuates.
• Push the limits of shards, nodes, and petabytes Elasticsearch can handle.
• Address performance or concurrency issues and propose solutions.
• Support engineers with complex problems.
• Take ownership of operational investigations until issues are resolved.

Requirements

• Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
• Strong skills in core Java with knowledge of data structures, concurrency constructs, and newer language features.
• Technical proficiency in algorithms.
• Experience with complex, highly distributed systems.
• Ability to build and debug impactful features across multiple machines.
• Capable of owning projects from design to implementation.
• Proven track record of using AI for development and optimization while ensuring ownership of outcomes.
• Effective collaboration skills across functions and teams.
• Ability to work autonomously and communicate effectively in a distributed team.
