Overview

The role is for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Search Relevance team at Elastic, a globally-distributed company that focuses on delivering robust search experiences using all types of data. The role involves contributing to the technical direction and vision for search capabilities while working with a team of experienced engineers.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives within Elasticsearch to enhance its search engine, ensuring high speed and relevance.
• Build new search features and resolve bugs, while improving code readability.
• Collaborate with a globally distributed team on vector search capabilities.
• Identify and implement improvements in Elasticsearch search relevance.
• Engage with community members on issues and pull requests.
• Write modern Java code, as Elasticsearch is primarily Java-based.

Requirements

• Experience implementing techniques in vector similarity on search platforms or academic research.
• Professional experience with search or vector databases, especially using algorithms like HNSW or IVF.
• Solid Java programming skills, including familiarity with data structures and concurrency constructs.
• Ability to work autonomously and guide projects from conception to implementation.
• Experience in collaborative development and providing feedback on code.
• Familiarity with data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Proven ability to use AI for development and optimization.
• Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
