Senior Software Engineer, Back-end (Fraud) @Affirm

Overview

They are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their fully remote team based in Europe, working closely with stakeholders across North America.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team while leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems.
• Design and implement real-time fraud decisioning services and APIs in Python or Kotlin.
• Build and evolve the platform for launching fraud decisioning in new countries.
• Integrate region-specific fraud and risk vendors and operationalize machine learning and AI signals.
• Support peers and stakeholders across the product development lifecycle.
• Create and monitor metrics for system availability and support operational needs.
• Foster a culture of quality and ownership through code reviews and mentoring.
• Participate in on-call rotation as required.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Experience with distributed systems using AWS, MySQL/PostgreSQL, and Kubernetes.
• Strong system design skills with a track record of delivering maintainable services.
• Fluency with AI-driven engineering practices.
• Proficiency in SQL and experience working with data-rich environments.
• Familiarity with CI/CD practices and safe production deployments.
• Strong communication skills in distributed teams.
• Proactive, ownership-driven mindset focused on learning and team success.
• Experience with Snowflake, dbt, or Airflow (nice to have).
• Background in fraud prevention or real-time decisioning (nice to have).
• Experience building for multiple markets (nice to have).
• Experience in the fintech sector (nice to have).
