Senior Software Engineer, Control Plane @Starburst

Overview

Starburst is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join their Control Plane team, focusing on the convergence of two deployment models: the self-managed Starburst Enterprise Platform and the fully managed Starburst Galaxy. This role involves working with a globally distributed engineering team on core software development.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain control plane services for Starburst Enterprise, Starburst Galaxy, and Trino.
• Contribute to a Unified Control Plane by integrating capabilities for both SaaS and self-managed deployments.
• Ensure reliability, scalability, and efficiency of services, including provisioning and cluster lifecycle management.
• Collaborate with team members globally in a fast-paced environment, focusing on coding and peer reviews.
• Provide exceptional customer support and handle reported issues seriously.
• Occasionally, assist with React and TypeScript-based Portal UI.

Requirements

• Prior experience developing distributed systems.
• Extensive software development experience with Java.
• Cloud infrastructure architecture experience with at least one major cloud provider.
• Experience building and operating backend services.
• Hands-on experience with AI coding tools and sound judgment in their application.
• Demonstrated software engineering and design best practices.
• Intrinsic motivation for improving software craftsmanship.
• Comfort with autonomy and ownership.
