Overview

The role involves a Senior Software Engineer position with Elastic, focused on the Elasticsearch - Search Relevance team, which is responsible for delivering a robust and feature-rich search experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives to produce an industry-leading search engine offering, ensuring speed and relevance.
• Contribute full-time to building new search features and fixing bugs, while enhancing code clarity.
• Work collaboratively with a globally distributed team on the vector search capabilities of Elasticsearch.
• Be an expert on Elasticsearch search relevance, identifying and driving improvements.
• Engage with community members on issues and pull requests, triaging and handling contributions as necessary.
• Write modern, idiomatic Java code, as Elasticsearch is primarily Java-based.

Requirements

• Experience with search or vector databases, utilizing relevant algorithms and libraries at scale.
• Proficiency in core Java and familiarity with data structures and concurrency concepts.
• Ability to work autonomously on projects from inception to completion, involving design and collaboration.
• Comfortable with collaborative development and providing feedback; experience with online collaborative code reviews is a plus.
• Familiarity with various data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Track record of leveraging AI for development, debugging, and optimization.
• Excellent collaboration skills across functions and projects in a distributed team environment.
