Overview

The Senior Software Engineer will join the Elasticsearch - Search Relevance team at Elastic, a company focused on enabling businesses to harness the power of search and AI. This globally-distributed team seeks to enhance the search experience through robust algorithms and innovative features.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives to produce industry-leading search engine offerings, ensuring high speed and relevance.
• Contribute to Elasticsearch by building new search features and resolving bugs, focusing on code clarity.
• Collaborate with a globally distributed team focused on vector search capabilities.
• Act as an expert on Elasticsearch search relevance, identifying and driving improvements.
• Engage with community members on issues and pull requests, managing contributions effectively.
• Develop in modern Java, which forms the majority of the Elasticsearch codebase.

Requirements

• Professional experience with search or vector databases and relevant algorithms at scale.
• Strong skills in core Java and familiarity with data structures and concurrency constructs.
• Ability to manage projects autonomously and collaborate effectively.
• Experience with various data storage technologies including Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Proven ability to use AI for development, debugging, and optimizing code.
• Experience working collaboratively in a distributed environment.
