The Senior Software Engineer will join the Elasticsearch - Search Relevance team, focusing on delivering a feature-rich search experience and improving the search capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives to produce an industry-leading search engine offering with unparalleled speed and relevance.
• Contribute to Elasticsearch full-time by building new search features and resolving bugs.
• Work with a globally distributed team to enhance vector search capabilities.
• Drive improvements in search relevance based on insights and instincts.
• Collaborate with community members on issues and pull requests.
• Write idiomatic modern Java code.

Requirements

• Professional experience with search or vector databases, familiar with HNSW, IVF, or other relevant algorithms.
• Solid skills in core Java and knowledge of data structures and concurrency constructs.
• Ability to guide projects independently from design to execution.
• Experience in collaborative development, especially in distributed teams.
• Familiarity with various data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Proven track record of utilizing AI for development and debugging.
• Capacity to collaborate across functions and manage transitions between different projects.
• Strong communication skills to drive decisions in a distributed environment.
