Overview

Elastic is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Search Relevance team. This role involves contributing to the technical direction and vision for search capabilities and delivering a feature-rich search experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives within Elasticsearch to produce a leading search engine with unparalleled speed and relevance.
• Build new search features and resolve bugs while enhancing code understandability.
• Collaborate with a globally distributed team focused on vector search capabilities.
• Identify and drive improvements in Elasticsearch search relevance.
• Engage with community members on issues and pull requests.
• Write idiomatic modern Java for Elasticsearch.

Requirements

• Experience implementing techniques in vector similarity on search platforms and a deep understanding of relevant algorithms.
• Professional experience with search or vector databases, such as HNSW or IVF.
• Strong core Java skills and familiarity with data structures and concurrency.
• Ability to autonomously guide projects from design to completion.
• Familiarity with collaborative coding and code review processes.
• Experience with various data storage technologies like Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB.
• Proven track record of using AI to optimize development and debugging processes.
• Ability to seamlessly transition between different projects and collaborate across teams.
