Overview
The role involves joining the Elasticsearch - Search Relevance team as a Senior Software Engineer at Elastic, the Search AI Company. This globally-distributed team focuses on enhancing the search experience, contributing to the technical direction for search capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead initiatives to produce an industry-leading search engine offering that ensures speed and relevance.
- Contribute to Elasticsearch full-time, building new search features, fixing bugs, and improving code clarity.
- Collaborate with a distributed team on vector search capabilities.
- Identify and implement improvements in Elasticsearch search relevance based on expert knowledge.
- Engage with community members on issues and pull requests, triaging or resolving them as necessary.
- Write idiomatic modern Java code, as Elasticsearch is predominantly Java-based.
Requirements
- Experience implementing techniques in vector similarity on search platforms or in academic research.
- Professional background with search or vector databases, familiar with algorithms such as HNSW and IVF.
- Solid skills in core Java, including familiarity with data structures and concurrency constructs.
- Ability to guide projects from conception to completion, including technical design and collaboration.
- Capability to work collaboratively and provide/receive feedback on code and APIs, particularly in asynchronous online environments.
- Experience with various data storage technologies (e.g., Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra).
- Proven use of AI for development acceleration, debugging, and code optimization while owning outcomes.
- Strong collaboration skills across functions and teams, with the ability to adapt to varying projects and priorities.
